Metatropism
Analogous to heliotropism in plants (orientation to the sun), Hirschfeld considered as "sexual tropism" the orientation of sexual behaviour towards a sexual object. Men were, he claimed, sexually agressive, incumbent, searching and conquering; women, in contrast, were passive, responsive and supportive - the succubus during intercourse. The reversal of this, "abnormal behaviour", he called "metatropism", in which the woman played the active, the man the passive role.
